Rain or shine, they always meet up at the Sandtrap in Banilad around 14:00, and leave around 14:30-15:00. I had the pleasure of meeting them for the first time Saturday, and they are quite a handful. After talking to them I was not sure to list this under sport activities, but then I realized a lot of sporting events in Cebu include a beer before, during or after anyway.
Michael Brown, one of the drink.., eh, walkers, is enlightening me about the activities. They meet up, have a beer or two, then head off(usually in a car) to their route, which changes from week to week. Some volunteer has set the route, and the walking usually last for 60-90 minutes. This is by no means a competition, and all ages from 5 and up are welcome. The group consists of Englishmen, Australians and other nationalities. Usually the trek is pretty easy, but sometimes it can be some steep hills. If so, there will be a pre-warning. Sometimes they also take a trip outside of Cebu Island.
The funny thing about this group is they all have different nicknames, and when they meet up they must use the nicknames. Don’t ever try to think of a fancy nickname, because they will give it to you the first day you show up. Being a family friendly site I cannot list all names (actually none of them!), and they’re certainly not for the faint hearted! Go ahead and find out.
The leaders meet up for what they call mismanagement now and then, and there are basically two rules only; 1. There are no rules. 2. If in doubt, refer to number one. If the mismanagement fails, they can always say they’re supposed to mismanage.
They have a website you could check out. If you care to join, just show up and bring 300 peso which also includes as much beer you can drink once you’re done. And I would also advise you not to bring your most fancy Adidas outfit the first time, as they have some – ehm – kind of baptism.
It’s all about being social, and they regularly arrange some kind of party like Hash House Xmas Bash or the annual piss-up. Meet up and have fun!
