Tonys Blog

I love my life here in Cebu. As a enthusiastic sportsman playing football, rugby (just retired), bowling, badminton, poker, pool etc I have a wide group of excellent friends both from the local and expat community.

I very much consider myself as part of this city having no qualms about eating local food, riding local transport and drinking local beer and spirits. I am not a financially wealthy guy but consider myself wealthy in life.

I enjoy writing but very much have to be in the mood so will not be sticking to a schedule for my blogs. At the moment I have no idea what I will write about other than life here in Cebu. My writings will be my own words and my own views and not influenced by this site or any other interests. I will try and keep things honest if not always interesting.

Don’t hound me for poor grammar, don’t stick the boot in making personal attacks and we will all do just fine. Catch you latter,

Tony Jarman

I am not talking of the most expensive houses/apartments or subdivisions; you do not have to spend a fortune finding accommodation. What I do think you need is a decent water supply, aircon, security, cable access, cleanliness and good neighbours who don’t have a thousand dogs or chickens roaming around. Your house is your leveler, its where you can relax and forget about the world outside so make sure you are not going to get distracted by the environment around you.

Hi Tony, decent water supply, aircon, security? In my dreams...!

You better come visit one day, would be interesting to see a city guy like you survive in the province.! :-)

It’s natural and logical that you are going to make friends with the local population. Whatever your circumstances e.g. working, girlfriend, wife, vacation etc you will form friendships with Filipino’s however, for your own sanity, you do need to find where the decent expats hangout and get to know them.

It’s pretty damn hard, for example, telling English jokes to a local and expecting them to get the punch line; it rarely happens. The chemistry between your own national identity or even that shared with your continental brothers is much different than what you will experience with your Filipino friends. You will need this expat company to ground yourself in some much needed reality.

filipinos all the way

Agree...however, after living in India for close to 30 years and seeing 1 billion of them day in and day out...trust me if you come to Mumbai..there are lots and lots of people. :)

I would rather not see any indians at all for a  change :) ...i thought the problem was with me only...but i read few guys from england saying...they would not want to see english people while in Thailand hehehe..cos he felt it just like another europe...big mistake....he hopped into Philihines and lived in Davoa for a while.

Yeah, after some time we need our own company...but if given a choice i would rather have filipino friends hehehe
